Olympia; Where does it stand today?
Olympia 2011 September 15-18
For those with the same question or those new to the term "Olympia";)
I have come to a conclusion. It's 2011 and Olympia has been a long time running, 46 years strong[haha]. At this point I question whether or not this event will ever be accepted by those outside the bodybuilding culture. I believe until The Olympia is accepted , bodybuilding wont be accepted. Why is it so important for the common folk to appreciate the posing showdowns of Jay Cutler, Kai Greene, and Warren Branch you ask?...I'll tell you why! BECAUSE THESE FELLOWS AMONG THE REST OF THE OTHER CONTENDERS DESERVE IT! THEY WORK TOO DAMN HARD! Lets get some mainstream media, some articles in every big news paper, because to the bodybuilders that sacrifice and work all year, this is their Olympics. Just like the Olympics it is when several countries come together and put aside the problems and just compete for that Olympia Medal! Let it be recognized for what it's worth.
I would say that what this sport needs is a different view from the general public. The spoken about steroids involved, YES EXIST...SO WHAT! Do you really feel that superior to these world class athletes?
I suggest we go back to Steroids 101! If your as ignorant as to still believe that they can take a minuscule 94 lb. man into a 250 lb. muscle freak, time to check if your brain is still sloshing around up there! Lets say you know better than that, great!
These athletes do not work out less and subtract intensity while on the juice! They do the freaking opposite, buddy!
Now, final thing: Why should anybody care about 250 lb. men in underwear posing in front of thousands of people? For the same reason people have been appreciating Picassos' work since the 20th century, it's some of the most amazingly impossible form of live art. Temporary, mortal and unseen anywhere else outside the days that compile Olympia weekend. Will we forget the art showcase by Arnold Schwarzenegger that sold out beyond capacity? He opened the doors for the bodybuilding culture in America, lets keep that door open!
So take a trip down to Venice Beach, go to Las Vegas for a few days, expand your horizons and experience something new or experience something through a different pair of eyes. Who knows it may just inspire those of you decreasing the expectancy of age rate with your obesity. Just kidding ;)
